Product design & Industrial research

We are working closely with companies’ R&D and business innovation units as well as public institutions. Clients include Samsung, Nike and Panasonic as well as the UK government Technology & strategy board, the Science museum, the Design museum and the Victoria & Albert museum. The studio focuses on design technology for social and cultural progress.
The studio is managed around three main areas:
1. Industrial research and product design consultancy dedicated to digital design and manufacturing methods, specialising in the SLS polyamides and DMLS metal alloys within the wide range of the additive layers manufacturing technologies (widely known as 3D printing). Co-design and user interaction coding offering of dedicated 3D design and engineering tools.
2. Design and manufacturing of lifestyle products such as footwear, mobile phones, shaving devices, lighting and furniture.
3. Self-production of limited edition studio pieces, using new design and production methods to achieve unique forms and aesthetic qualities.

Hybrid manufacturing AM+MM

Our approach to hybrid industrial design is a blend of additive and mass manufacturing. Our AM+MM strategy is a combination of mass produced product elements, that are designed to be highly durable, with additive manufacturing parts, that are personalised, recyclable or biodegradable and designed to have shorter product life. This sustainable circular PLM (Product Life Management) cycle enables greater design and production speeds, higher durability, recyclability and user personalisation over time.

CMF – Colour, material & Finish

Design research into human factors and users’ way of life are an essential part of our design strategy, alongside a deep analysis of the aesthetics and suitability of the products’ colour, texture, material and finish.

User informed design and ergonomics

The users are amongst the most important focuses of our design workflow. We analyse their preferences and needs and we often use 3D scanning and motion capturing to learn about their personality, behaviours and ergonomics. Using 3D scripting, we can then modify parts of the object for a better user fit.

Furniture and large scale butch production in London.

Working closely with our manufacturing partners within the EU and the UK, we have created and perfected a large scale production and post processing workflow. Using CNC machines, we create the first product tool. We then produce a GRP mould for the first cast to be made. This allows us to manufacture limited edition furniture that is post processed very carefully to achieve high quality surface finish and colour blends.

Footwear Hybrid AM+MM additive with mass manufacturing parts

Footwear design using a hybrid approach to enhance performance, durability and ergonomics. We have been working closely with Nike R&D and over the years designed, prototyped and analysed futurist and novel footwear scenarios mainly within the co design, personalisation and hybrid manufacturing  AM+MM
